Every moment is a moment to change in the right direction. Sometimes we get caught up in our daily routine. We waste a day coasting through life. We don’t think that day is a big deal because “I’ll get back at it tomorrow.” Tomorrow comes and we continue to go through the same steps and routine over and over again. Life begins to feel like Groundhog Day.

Skipping a day of making the right decisions about your life, relationship, health or fitness may not seem like a big deal in the moment but it is.

Every Moment Compounds With Another

Building anything that is meaningful doesn’t happen overnight. It is the old cliche of building a house one brick at a time. Not only is it building a house one brick at a time but every time you waste a moment you take two bricks away.

I’m going to use a running analogy because I’m a runner. Running 1 mile a day is better to me than running 7 miles at once one day a week. Why? It’s all about keeping the momentum going. Almost every day, I try to squeeze something in. Even if it’s something small. It reminds yourself that there are no days off. You will not make it if you don’t stay consistent.

You Will Not Get A Second Chance

We may think to ourselves that we will have another chance to do something. We won’t. Why? Time is always passing us by. Second chances don’t come by like our mind would rationalize that they come by. Even if you get a second chance at a job you’ve always wanted when will that happen? A year later? You’ve just lost a year waiting for that second chance.

Always be ready for every opportunity to come by. They won’t always be glaring at you in the face. The opportunities that matter are the ones you don’t want to acknowledge. The opportunities are that alarm clock waking you up early in the morning that you want to ignore. Opportunities are following that itch in yourself to do something that your passionate about but you don’t quite know how to get started.

Follow That Voice

If you’re like me you have this voice in the back of your head that tells you that you can be more than this. You don’t have to be stuck in this corporate job for the rest of your life. You don’t have to work for anyone. However, nothing will change if you don’t do anything about it. Nothing will change if you don’t make incremental progress everyday because changes that matter don’t happen overnight. It’s not going to happen from just working hard for one day. You have to work hard moment after moment, day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year.

I’ve always had that voice in my head that tells me that I can be more than this. I have a lot of lofty goals. My physical goals are running a 100 mile ultra marathon, running an Iron Man, and completing GoRuck Selection. I’m 30 years old and not getting any younger. When is the time going to be to pursue these goals? That time is now.

It Starts With The Moment

Be intentional with every moment. As hard as it may be. You need to train your brain to compartmentalize all the background noise and just start doing something.

Working on your mindset is where everything starts. Bury that part of you that is lazy and doesn’t want to do anything. Start believing in yourself. Believe in the system you’ve implemented because there will be ups and downs. There will be moments where you will not believe you are making any progress. You will start thinking to yourself “I’ve been doing this for 3 months and I feel like I’m in the same place as 3 months ago.”

Drown that voice, keep going and someday you will notice it.
